Interning for the Office of Communications and Marketing allowed me to apply the knowledge I have learned in the classroom. While interning, I wrote and edited over 100 campus notices and posted them to Auburn University’s website through Cascade, a web content management system. I also was given the opportunity to research ideas and produce feature articles, news releases and spotlights to be posted on the university’s homepage. I assisted in editing e-newsletters and releases sent to students, faculty, staff and alumni. Collaboration was a big part of my internship, as I worked closely with the Office of Communications and Marketing staff to generate ideas for social media posts, recruiting tactics and Auburn’s role in the SEC commercial. The highlight of my time here was seeing one of my articles published in an Auburn football program.
I worked for L&M Interior Design as an assistant to the company owners. During my time at L&M, I created the company’s Instagram page, which included acquiring followers and posting project pictures. I also enhanced their social media presence by posting on their Facebook account and writing content for their website. A few of my other roles were to assist at photo shoots, help create the showroom and run daily errands.
While at C.S. Toggery, I worked as a sales clerk and promoted the business through various social media postings. I assisted customers in selecting clothing items, created window displays and completed store transactions. Helping the owner select merchandise for the store was also one of my responsibilities. I enjoyed learning the details about operating a small, private business. Throughout my time at C.S. Toggery, I was able to build relationships with numerous customers.
